The Thruway Shopping Center on Route 59 in Nanuet, which was previously set to host a new hotel will now feature a self-storage facility.
The site, which spans 6.6 acres, will have a self-storage facility that will be four stories high and covers 115,000 square feet. The footprint of the facility will be 28,000, which is larger than the former proposed Holiday Inn Express, which would have covered 13,000 square feet. This will mean that a new SEQRA review will need to be presented before the Planning Board. This is a retail shopping zone, so a self-storage facility is permitted. Some landscaping that had been planned will also be lost.
There will still be a cell tower, a QuickChek restaurant, and a KFC or Taco Bell on the site. This will be the first QuickChek in Rockland County. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the public of such changes in planning developments.
The ownership of the project is a partnership between the Kirchner, Yassky, and Goldstein families, which each have other commercial and residential real estate properties in the county. This team has built a self-storage facility in West Nyack on Snake Hill Road and this is also visible from the New York State Thruway. The Kirshner and Yassky families have also developed Extra Space Storage, a Class A state-of-the-art self-storage facility in the area.
