The Education Department of New York State recently recognized 23 schools in the Hudson Valley as being high-progress and high-achieving Reward Schools among the total of 155 in the state. Included in the list was Nanuet Senior High School.
Schools that have made the greatest progress in the state and have the fewest disparities in student academic achievement, or those with high academic achievement, are recognized as Reward Schools.
These school also must rank within the top one-fifth of schools in the state for performance in math and English language arts for the school years of 2015-16 and 2016-17, or rank among the top tenth of schools in terms of gains in performance in math and English language arts in the school year for 2016-17.
Additional requirements include demonstrating progress for all groups of students on all accountable measures and not having unacceptably large gaps in the performance of students between specific groups, such as low-income students and other students.
Betty Rosa, Chancellor of the Board of Regents, commented that administrators and teachers work hard at these Reward Schools to push their students and provide them with opportunities to learn. The results demonstrate their efforts, she added, and she is happy to celebrate their success.
