Several celebrations of the Fourth of July are taking place in Rockland County this weekend.
Residents of Nanuet may want to travel the short distance to Nanuet on July 4 to the Village of Nyack for its annual display of fireworks. The display will be along the Hudson River at Memorial Park and will be able to be seen from any location in the village.
Also on July 4, even closer to Nanuet, will be a free concert and fireworks display at the East Central Avenue ball field sponsored by the Pearl River Board of Trustees. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. with fireworks to follow two hours later.
Those who may want to travel a bit further can go to the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, where there will be an Independence Commemoration from July 2 through July 4, to celebrate the 240th birthday of the United States. There will be special guided walking tours of the battlefield, where one of the last battles of the last Revolutionary War battles took place in the in the northeastern colonies.
On July 4 itself, there will be an illustrated lecture discussing how the Declaration of Independence was developed at 2:00 p.m. This will be followed by a reading at 2:45 p.m. and the firing of canons at 3:00 p.m.
The Historic Site may want to take advantage of flyer printing to promote these special activities as an alternative to fireworks.
