MLK day of service helps celebrate birthdays
As part of the MLK Day of Service, volunteers at the Nyack Center, just a short distance from Nanuet, will be putting together birthday boxes.
These boxes will contain a box of cake mix and a can of frosting, birthday candles, and a banner, which may have been made and donated by a local printing company. There will also be a gift appropriate for the age of the child to which the box will be given.
At least two to three handcrafted cards will be inside each box that will have a special birthday message. The box will then be wrapped by volunteers and distributed throughout the year through one of the Center’s many programs, targeting those who may not otherwise have a birthday celebration.
Both parents and children are encouraged to participate in this project so that they collaborate on purchasing a gift for a child and then pack and wrap the box together. They also have the opportunity to put their own personal touches on the cards.
The Nyack Center is a nonprofit organization that supports children, youth and families through recreational and educational programs in the Nyack and Greater Rockland County areas. It also provides space for community events, cultural celebrations, and programs for before and after school.
This event will take place on Saturday, January 16 from 10:00 am to noon at the Nyack Center.
