Two unions in the Hudson Valley in which Nanuet is located will be holding recruitment drives for apprentices in the upcoming months.
Electrical apprentices will be needed by USIS Electric, Inc. and those interested in these jobs can pick up an application at the union’s office in Pearl River. Their drive will be held from February 21, 2017 through February 21, 2018.
Sheet metal worker apprentices are being sought by the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sheet Metal Workers and those interested in these jobs can pick up applications at the local union’s office in Brewster. Prospective employees should be able and willing to travel within the area of the lower Hudson Valley and counties in Connecticut adjacent to New York State. Their drive will be held from February 27 through December 29.
In addition to being 18 years of age or older and having a high school diploma or its equivalent, applicants for the Sheet Metal Workers apprenticeship need to take the Basic Math Test, which the local union administers, as there is a great deal of working with rulers and math in the trade.
Those interested in becoming electrical apprentices also need to demonstrate physical stamina and the ability to perform the various requirements of the trades, such as carrying 25 pounds and standing most of the day.
Those apprentices who become successful in their trade may eventually look to business card printing to promote their services.
