The yearly “Back to School with Dignity” program is currently underway in Rockland County.
This program is one of the efforts of
People to People, Inc., to provide school supplies that are needed by students from lower-income families in the County. These children in grades kindergarten through 12 can then begin the new school year successfully with all the essential school items.
School supplies are to be deposited at the People to People location in Nanuet during the weekdays.
In addition, local businesses from the Palisades Center are assisting in the effort. Those shoppers who but gift cards from Guest Services throughout the month of August can also make a donation to the program.
A “Family Fun Day,” will take also place on August 29 at the Palisades Center to collect gifts of school supplies. Attendees who bring donations of school supplies will be entered into a prize draw involving Palisades Center retailers.
The “Back to School with Dignity” initiative is also supported by grants and financial contributions from Provident Bank, Flaregas Corp., Orange and Rockland Utilities with additional contributions from individuals, community groups and civic associations.
People to People is the largest food pantry in Rockland and is most likely turning to a local flyer printing company to create materials to promote this effort and encourage as many people as possible to donate school supplies.
