A strip mall along Route 59 near the New York state Thruway in Nanuet is being considered for replacement with a hotel.
The plans call for a five-story hotel with 123 rooms and Dunkin' Donuts, which will be free-standing and have a drive-through, at the current Thruway Plaza. The plaza would be demolished, except for a building that houses a KFC and a Taco Bell. The development might also include an additional restaurant.
A partnership between the Kirchner, Yassky, and Goldstein families, Thruway Plaza of Rockland Associates, owns the land. The needed approval process is currently underway with an anticipated date of late 2019 to begin construction.
Nearby is a Hampton Inn as well as several other hotels in the area. It is a natural location for hotels, commented president of the Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce, Risa Hoag.
She added that many developers are now interested in the business potential of Nanuet. She understands that several businesses will need to move or even close their doors because of the new hotel, but she expects many benefits for Rockland, Clarkstown, and Nanuet in the long run to come about from the new hotel.
