Five engineering apprentices to be hired in lower Hudson Valley

The New York State Department of Labor recently announced that it will be holding a recruitment fair for apprentices for the Local Union #825 of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Operating Engineers later this month.

There are five operating engineer apprentice positions, which represents the total number of openings for two recruitment regions in the counties of Ulster, Sullivan, Delaware, and Orange, as well as Rockland, in which Nanuet is located.

There are several basic requirements of those applicants with digital Business Cards at the ready at the fair. They need to be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma. A valid driver’s license is required, as apprentices will be operating company vehicles. Reliable transportation is also needed to and from jobsites and any training classes. The WorkKeys Locating Information Test needs to be taken and passed before an interview is granted. Those who have served in the military need to provide a military transfer card or discharge form DD-214.

The recruitment fair will be running from October 19 through October 30. Applications can be picked up from the local union in Middletown and need to be completed in person. The applications will be distributed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and are limited to the first 40 applicants.
