A ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently held at Rockland Community College in Suffern for the opening of two state-of-the art biology laboratories.
As the college is a short distance from Nanuet, most likely many students from the attend the college and many may have been present at this special event.
The public was invited as well, and everyone had the opportunity to tour the new laboratories.
Funding from for the project was secured by State Senator David Carlucci. Both the state and local municipalities contributed $200,000 to pay for the renovations. Senator Carlucci is a graduate of Rockland Community College.
The two laboratories had all new furnishings installed,as well as new electrical fixtures and updated plumbing. There was a partial redesign to the rooms, with expanded instructor benches, extra storage, and new countertops for the students.
Each room has one set of benches which is accessible for handicapped students. There are also safety showers and new eye wash stations in each lab.
The laboratories were opened in 1964 and most of the renovations have replaced the original components from that time.
Schools such as Rockland Community College might consider using Flyers or mailers to attract people to special events such as this one, and inform the community of how educational facilities are being updated to meet the needs of students.
