The Michael McDermott Memorial Golf Outing will be held this week for the 12th year in a row.
It will take place at the Blue Hill Golf Course in Pearl River to honor the memory of Michael McDermott, a student of Nanuet High School, who graduated in 2000 and died two years later. Most likely, flyer printing is being used to raise awareness of the causes that the event supports.
Since that time, the family has held the golf tournament to raise money for a scholarship fund in his name and for a variety of other causes, including the Center for Hope (a support group for families of missing persons), People to People, Inc., the ALS Association, and Camp Venture. It also awards college money to student athletes from Nanuet High School. Last year, there were more than 150 golfers and the amount raised since the event was inaugurated has topped the $150,000 mark.
The outing will be held tomorrow, July 10, starting at 11:00 am with a barbeque lunch. A shotgun start will begin the tournament at 12:30 pm.
The Blue Hill Golf Course features 27 holes of golf with a wide range of challenges, from drivable and strategic par-four courses, to picturesque par-threes, to mischievous doglegs. There are tees for advanced, average, female, and senior players.
