The Hudson Valley Visiting Pet Program, which provides animal therapy and education in the counties of Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Bergen in New Jersey, will be holding two workshops this month for those who want to use their pets for animal-assisted therapy.
The first will be held at the Nanuet Library and will be a workshop on how to work with a therapy pet to help children learn to read. The cost is $99 is for teachers, dog handlers, librarians, and school administrators.
There will be training and information on how the reading skills and self-confidence of children can be improved by working with a registered therapy dog team. It will be held on Saturday, March 21 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and is for humans only.
The next one is workshop for applicants who want to become therapy handlers. Attendees will be introduced to animal-assisted therapy and get them ready to visit schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and other facilities with their pets. It will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.
Members of the Hudson Valley Visiting Pet Program have been visiting assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and schools since 1993. Flyer printing is a good way for the program to provide more information to the community about its mission and how people can get more involved.
