What's Happening in Hewlett, NY…

Virtual tour of the Five Towns next month

A virtual tour of the Five Towns, titled “A Vacation in the Branch,” will be held in November.

The Five Towns was called the Branch back in the late 1800s and the early 1900s. Residents from Hewlett, Lawrence, or any of the Five Towns are welcome to join.

Temple Israel of Lawrence will conduct the tour, which will explore the history of the area. Participants can expect photographs and private collections that explore the history of the region. The tour guide will also go over the Five Towns’ history as a popular vacation spot.

The guide leading the event will be Millicent Vollono, who acted as the librarian for the Hewlett-Woodmere Public library for almost three decades. While at the library, Vollono curated the history collection for the area. Photographs she will be sharing are taken from these library collections. She has also written a book about the area called “The Five Towns.”

The virtual tour will be conducted through Zoom and is sponsored by the Judy and Ben Segan Adult Education Fund of Temple Israel. Flyer printing is frequently used to promote these kinds of tours.

The event will be held on November 11 at 7:30 PM. Registration for the tour is free and is also open to all members of the public. Those interested can email alan.freedman@tilny.org to get the Zoom link.
