As the months of summer approach, many Glen Cove residents are considering which plants to add to their garden for this year, and an upcoming event will help them explore some of their lesser-known options.
The Glen Cove Public Library has organized a workshop that will share tips and tricks of successful veggie growing. Along with this, participants will learn about varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants that they may not find in their typical big box style garden center.
The event will address an assortment of topics that can lead to gardening success. Those who attend will discover ways they can start vegetable transplant starters in their own home, which they can then transfer to an outdoor plot, bed, or pot. They will receive advice about which may be the best choices for the local climate and growing conditions, and also how to care for them once they have been moved to their permanent home.
All of the materials needed for the workshop will be provided, and everyone is welcome. Print shops will be able to produce simple growing guides that can be distributed during an event like this.
The Grow Your Own session will be held at the Glen Cove Public Library on April 7, starting at 1:00 pm. Anyone who would like to find out more can do so by visiting the occasion’s Patch listing.
