The area around Glen Cove is home to a variety of wooded areas, and an excursion will help the public to enjoy and appreciate the beauty they contain.
The grounds of Garvies Point Museum and Preserve will be explored during the walk, which will be appropriate for any age. The facilitator will introduce the group to the many species of trees and other plants that grow in the area, and the participants will find out which ones can be sources of food for humans and wildlife alike.
While the walkers enjoy viewing the beauty of the fall foliage, they will learn why leaves change color and what causes this to happen. The ways plants adapt to changing temperatures throughout the year will also be discussed, and to accommodate as many people as possible, the host has planned two start times – one in the morning and one for those who would prefer to head out in the afternoon.
