The city of Glen Cove is teaming up with Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) to celebrate the 100th Anniversary Tree Lighting and Winter Festival. The event starts off the holiday season with music, ceremonies, carriages, and a certain jolly visitor.
The event marks 100 years since Glen Cove first put up a Christmas Tree in downtown, and this year the BID is looking to celebrate by offering horse and carriage rides the whole afternoon. The carriages will ride through downtown, giving visitors a scenic look at the historic district.
After the ride, attendees can shop among the downtown businesses, or take advantage of a free photo with Santa for their Holiday Cards. After the last carriage ride is over, the Glen Cove High School Jazz Band will play a 45-minute set of some classic carols. Then, the honorable Reginald Spinello and Rev. Betsy Simpson will preside over a Candlelight Ceremony.
Finally, the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department will pick up Santa and take him to the tree, where at last the lights will come on and the holiday season will begin.
The Tree Lighting and Winter Festival will be held on November 28 at the Glen Cove Village Square from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
