Glen Cove pizzeria aims to reach upper crust

Vito's Ristorante & Pizzeria in Glen Cove has been nominated for ‘Best Pizza’ in Bethpage Best of Long Island, a competition now open for voting.

The 11th annual competition, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, features businesses in categories such as Arts and Entertainment, Food & Drink, Nightlife & Spirits, and Health and Wellness.

Last year, more than 50,000 businesses were nominated for Bethpage Best of Long Island. More than two million votes were cast and a total of 479 locally owned businesses in Nassau and Suffolk counties won.

Vito's Ristorante & Pizzeria is located at 91 Forest Ave. and offers specialty pizzas, such as the Drunken Grandma, Bacon Ranch, Fried Calamaria, and Macaroni and Cheese. They also make stuffed pizzas, like Chicken Quesadilla, Stuffed Meat Special, and Stuffed Cheese, Mushroom and Broccoli.

Though nominated for the ‘Best Pizza’ category, Vito's offers a full Italian-American menu. Appetizers range from mozzarella sticks to shrimp oreganata, while soups, salads, wraps, paninis, pastas, calzones, fish dishes, and other entrees round out the menu. Desserts include cannoli, cheesecake, Nutella pizza, and assorted cakes.

The winners are promoted online and via Promotional Products created by Long Island Press, a trademark of Morey Publishing in Syosset. Last year's winners can be found on the event website.

This year, voting opened October 1 and closes December 18.
