Glen Cove library set to host a seedy event

A seed swap can give gardeners a chance to share their excess seeds with others while increasing the stock of plant cultivars in the local area, and the Glen Cove Public Library will soon be hosting one of these horticulturally themed events.

Gardeners who have extra seeds to swap are invited to bring them along to the function, and they can exchange them with others who also have some to trade. They are asked to ensure that the ones they bring have not been treated and are not a hybrid or GMO type.

Those who bring seeds to the event are reminded to make sure they are labelled with the name of the variety and also the date and location where they were collected. While the attendees share what they have to offer, they will be able to meet and chat with others who are also interested in gardening.

Although the attendees are encouraged to bring along seeds to swap, this is not required. An occasion like this can help to preserve heritage plant cultivars and allows people to increase the diversity of what they grow in their garden. Flyer printing can be used to create announcements that let the public know when this type of function will be taking place.

This will be the library’s second seed swap, and it has been planned for March 3. It will be held in the Glen Cove Public Library, and more details can be found on its Patch listing.
