The city of Glen Cove will once again be putting together its Annual Mayor’s Snapper Derby towards the end of the month.
The morning event encourages children to get some experience of fishing, while potentially winning some fun prizes.
The summertime event is a yearly fixture along the sunny pier at Pryibil Beach. Notably, the catches hauled in have varied extensively from year to year, with last year only bringing in a grand total of four fish among the 75 participants. It is, nonetheless, likely to be an experience for young anglers, providing a first try at fishing for many of Glen Cove’s children.
The event is divided into junior and senior divisions. Children are required to bring a rod and reel, but bait and tackle will be provided. The fishing is open all morning, and prizes will be awarded by the mayor to the first and second biggest fish of any kind caught in each division. Aside from the prizes, participants will also receive a free hot dog and beverage, as well as a few Promotional Products, including a T-shirt and fishing accessories.
The Mayor’s Snapper Derby will be held on August 27 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at Pryibil Beach Pier, located on Eastland Dr. Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the event, which is free to participate in, should contact the city directly.
