A virtual event that will help gardeners preserve heritage and older cultivars of veggies, fruits, and flowers is on tap for Glen Cove, and anyone who would like to reserve their seat is invited to do so now.
The Glen Cove Public Library has made arrangements to host a seed saving workshop. This alternative to using large seed houses aids in preserving genetic diversity, as well as pest and disease resistance.
The presenter for the event will review the benefits of seed saving and discuss the pollination process. The attendees will learn the difference between open pollinated and heirloom varieties, and everyone will walk away from the session with a better understanding of how they can undertake this practice in their own plots. A confirmation email and joining instructions will be provided to the participants after they have completed their registration.
