The city of Glen Cove is preparing its Tenth Annual Senior Recognition Day. The event looks to honor the city’s centenarians with Banners, awards, refreshments, and entertainment.
The day is designed to celebrate any and all seniors, but offers specific awards for locals who have reached 100 years old or older. This year, Beatrice Galeski and Willoby Wilson will be receiving this ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. Additionally, the city will be giving an award to the senior who is most active in the community, and for 2016 the honor goes to Marilyn Brenner. During the ceremony, refreshments will be served and a photo booth and a raffle will add a little extra fun to the proceedings.
The city will also be honoring seniors in some other ways during the day. Many of the businesses in downtown will be offering special discounts to residents 65 and over. A lot of the restaurants will be giving a discount of 10% or more on meals, and the Wine Basket is offering 15% off wine. Star Nails will also offer 20% off on a pedicure. Sponsorships are available for locals who want to provide flowers, refreshments, or entertainment to help support seniors.
The event will take place on May 7 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Glen Cove Village Square located at 130 Glen St., and is free to attend. Anyone interested in sponsoring a senior or attending the event should visit the website for more info.
