While Glen Cove gardeners may have put their plots to bed for another winter, there are still horticultural tasks to perform. One of these jobs can be to attend a skill building workshop, and one such learning opportunity will be on offer for local green thumbs.
The Glen Cove Public Library has a February workshop scheduled that will be focused on growing fruits, veggies, flowering plants, and greenery using organic practices. These offer many benefits, including that they often have a lower environmental impact than traditional methods.
Regina Dlugokencky , who is a seed librarian, will act as the facilitator for the class, and she will introduce the learners to the basic fundamentals of organic gardening. They will learn how practices such as crop rotation, organic fertilizers and integrated pest management (IPM) techniques can result in vegetables that have a dense nutrient level and are as tasty as they are healthful.
The Glen Cove Public Library, which will be the host for this presentation, noted that the discussion will begin at 10:00 am. Lists of resources that can be helpful for organic gardeners, ideas for plot layouts and tips for companion planting, can be helpful for those who are finding their feet when it comes to organic gardening, and a printing services company can provide these for this sort of function.
The library, which is situated at 4 Glen Cove Avenue, will be taking place on February 22. All who are interested are encouraged to attend.
