The Glen Cove Mayor’s Snapper Derby, a fishing event for kids, has been set for August. Held at Pryibil Beach Fishing Pier, participants need to bring their own fishing rod.
In a press release, Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello stated that the derby is one of his favorite events in the city. He loves seeing kids bait their first hook, or see the excitement of getting the best catch throughout the day.
The Glen Cove Anglers Club hosts the event, and creates two separate divisions for kids. Those ages 6 to 10 compete in one division, while the other is reserved for those from 11 to 16. Everyone who participates gets a Snapper Derby shirt, a soda, a hot dog, and a raffle ticket for prizes. Trophies for the top three catches will be awarded, as well as Best Angler of the Day. Events like this are often sponsored by local businesses that use Promotional Products to get the word out about their company.
The derby will be held on August 19th, rain or shine. Registration begins at 8:15 and continues until 9:30. All prizes will be handed out at the end of the day, and kids must be present to win their prize. To find out more about the event, contact the Parks & Rec department in Glen Cove.
