Finley students surprised with Chromebooks

When the administrators at Robert M. Finley Middle School in New York’s Glen Cove met with incoming sixth graders for orientation, each student was unexpectedly handed their own new Chromebook laptop computer.

All sixth and seventh graders received computers provided by the district, and were also given a laptop case that was embroidered with the Glen Cove logo. As part of the orientation, sixth graders also participated in a scavenger hunt, reviewed school rules, and talked with administrators and teachers about how to use social media.

The Chromebooks will be used for instruction in classrooms. As orientation was completed, students and their families moved on to a barbeque sponsored by the PTA. Along with members of the PTA, Lawrence Carroll, the school’s assistance principal, helped staff the grill. Snacks and hot dogs were shared as students spent time getting to know their classmates and school staff.

Orientation and the barbeque were held on August 29, with school sessions beginning shortly afterwards. Robert M. Finley is a public middle school located in Glen Cove, New York. The school educates more than 700 students enrolled in grades 6-8. For more information about the school or the gifted Chromebooks, contact the district directly.
