Festival celebrates Native American culture

The second Brentwood Native American Festival is taking place this July.

It is presented by the Brentwood Garden Association, the Northport VA Native American Committee, and BSA Brentwood.

The festival is a multicultural celebration of Native American culture. There will be a variety of native foods to purchase, arts and crafts vendors, and musical performances.

There will be Aztec dancers, dancing drums, and a candy dance for children. Among the performers expected to appear are the Kasibahagua Taino Cultural Society, and members will have music, song, dance, and storytelling as part of their performances.

While this event is meant to empower ‘Native American women and youth’, it really is for everyone who either shares the ancestry or is interested in learning more about Native American culture. There is bound to be something that will appeal to each member of the family.

Vendors are still being accepted for the festival, and will be accepted until the day of the event.

To ensure people from all over Nassau County know about the festival, including those in nearby Glen Cove, local printing companies may be asked to provide signage or Posters.

The Brentwood Native American Festival will be held at Vasquez Park on July 11; the rain date is July 18. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. For more information about this event, contact Gary Gravesandy at 631-774-2819.
