The annual Cycle the Erie Canal Bike Tour returns this summer, with eight days of scenic routes throughout the State of New York.
Riders will begin in Buffalo, with overnight stops in the cities of Medina, Fairport, Seneca Falls, Syracuse, Rome, Canajoharie, and Schenectady, before reaching their final destination of Albany.
The 400-mile tour will have 350 cyclists covering approximately 40 to 60 miles per day, traveling along the Erie Canalway Trail. Most of the terrain is level, although there will be some hills to traverse in the Mohawk Valley.
The outdoor tour package includes meals, evening entertainment, and guided tours of the museums, parks, the Canal and historical sites along the way. Participants will camp outdoors overnight, with access to washroom facilities, and have the option to rent air mattresses and tents for an additional fee, from Cozy Campers. Cyclists will also be provided with a Canal t-shirt and be recognized as an ‘End-to-Ender’.
Riders will be provided with a daily route map, and a copy of the Cycle the Erie Canal Rider Guidebook. Printing services may be used to create this 142-page book, which features full-color maps, a list of attractions, and applicable services like hotels and bike shops. The handbook has been updated for the 2021 season, and will be available soon.
The bike tour will be held from July 11 to 18. Registration fees are $1,200 for adults, $650 for youths (ages 6-17), and children (five and under) are $290. For further information, visit the Canal Bike Tour website, or email eriecanaltour@ptny.org.
