An officer with the NYPD recently met an individual near Murray Hill that gave him something to crow about.
The police sergeant found a rooster roaming at large and noticed he looked like he could use a good meal and a new place to call home. He decided he wanted to rescue him from a life on the streets, where he was at risk of being injured or even killed.
Though he usually can be found on the job with the anti-crime patrol, Sergeant Anthony Egan took the opportunity to go beyond his usual duties when he spotted the bird near the Snyder and Flatbush Avenues. At first, he and the other sergeant he was working with joked around about “ why did the rooster cross the road”, but when they realized it needed help, they decided to act.
They were able to catch the rooster and get him into a kennel so he could safely be transported to a safer environment. Though Sgt. Egan took a shine to his new feathered friend, he decided it would be best for him to live out in the country. He made a few calls and found Farm Sanctuary, which offers a safe haven for farm animals, and it agreed to take him in. A printer who produces business Forms can create record sheets for use when a refuge adopts an animal such as this fortunate fowl.
The large black rooster, which Sgt. Egan named “Justice”, is reported to be doing well and has settled into his new surroundings.
