Even in an urban environment nature finds a way, and Murray Hill residents are invited to be part of a tour that will offer glimpse into a local example of how this is taking place.
Randall’s Island Park will soon welcome nature lovers for a guided tour of Little Hell Gate Salt Marsh, which is reported to be one of the city’s last remaining freshwater wetland areas. It’s home to many species of birds, insects, mammals and plants as well as several types of amphibians, and the group may even be lucky enough to spot a snowy egret or red tailed hawk as they go.
The tour guide for the activity will discuss the various plants and animals that are seen, providing details about their lives and their role in the marsh’s ecosystem. It also acts as a nursery for several species of fish, and these will be included in the talk as well. The function will run for one hour, and the meeting point for the registrants can be found on the north end side of the site’s boardwalk.
An outing like this may provide those who take part with a lot of information. Print shops can be counted on to provide an assortment of signage to post at a park or other site’s various points of interest.
