A well-contributed terrarium can keep itself going for many years with little to no care, and a Murray Hill area class will teach how to craft one from scratch.
The Fountain House Gallery has teamed up with Vermilion to offer a class that will provide an introduction to the construction and care of terrariums, and everyone will be able to prepare one of these mini ecosystems to take home. They can bring their own container or choose one to purchase from the venue’s stock, and a reduced ticket price will be offered to Fountain House members.
The facilitator will teach how to use the materials provided to prepare a terrarium. They will layer the charcoal, soil, and other hard elements in their container before the plants are installed. After this, some springtails, which are primitive arthropods and part of nature’s cleanup crew, will be added to help complete the miniature ecosystem. The gallery is located at 702 Ninth Avenue at 48th Street, and features works of art crafted by artists living with mental illness.
A crafting class combines fun and learning. Effective marketing materials for such a function can be prepared by area flyer printing companies.
This chance for Murray Hill home horticulturalists and houseplants lovers to craft their own terrarium will be held on Thursday, December 7. It will start at 6:30 pm.
