Even people living in the heart of the city can still grow a crop of veggies in their own home garden, and a Murray Hill area class will help point the way to horticulture success.
A course that will introduce the basics of cultivating vegetables has been prepared by Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and it will cover topics that may be of interest to both the beginner and seasoned green thumbs. Tickets may be reserved now for $58, which includes a materials fee of $11, and the activity is restricted to adults only.
During the class, the group will explore the basics of getting started with growing vegetables, from the soil on up. The learners will discuss which species and cultivars are best suited to their needs, and planting schedules and the benefits of succession planting will also be on the agenda. Everyone will get to try their hand at seed starting, and when they head for home, they will be invited to take some seeds with them and get growing.
Horticultural workshops give the public a way to gain new gardening skills. A flyer printing company will be able to offer a variety of ways to prominent an activity, with options for a wide variety of budget levels.
This introduction to growing healthy vegetables at home has been planned for March 16. Classroom 236 of the Gardens Administration Building will be the venue for the evening, which starts at 6:00 pm.
