The waters that surround the Murray Hill area provide a home to many creatures, and one of these is oysters. These bivalves usually go about their lives unseen, but those who attend a local event will learn many of their secrets.
During Oyster 101, members of the public will discover facts about these shellfish that may be new to them. An oyster farmer, author, and the president of the Brooklyn Historical Society will all be included in the conversation, providing an opportunity to learn about the important role oysters play in both the ecosystems they inhabit and the human world as well.
The event will be filled with fun facts, and the audience will find out about how they help to keep oceans clean by filtering out pollution and other contaminants. They will also learn how others are farmed for human consumption and some even help to shelter the shores from the high waves caused by seasonal storms.
