Without even realizing it, many people dump food scraps that could otherwise be used to transform plain textiles into pretty fashion pieces. A Murray Hill class will point the way to less waste in early 2023.
The three-hour workshop taking place in the community will cover both rust and bundle dyeing, and everyone will go home with a variety of projects to work on. It will utilize materials saved from the food scrap bin, as well as other materials that have been foraged, and it is intended for the beginner.
The activity will give each attendee an opportunity to learn and get experience with an assortment of techniques they will be able to use on their own. Minerals, heat, and steam will all be utilized to produce various shades, and treatment of the dyed fabrics will be discussed as well. The materials used will all be supplied, and while they will receive textiles to use, the attendees are welcome to bring up to three small pieces from home as well.
Many people enjoy hands-on crafting, and are excited to have a chance to learn something new. A workshop offers a way to do so, and a flyer printing company can aid in promoting this type of occasion to the public.
The Bundle Dyeing with Flora, Fauna, Food and Rust class will be taking place on January 16 at Better Than Jam’s Studio. It will begin at 6:00 pm.
