On June 12, Officer John Passarella came to the rescue of one of the NYC’s smallest and fuzziest residents, when he rescued a kitten holed up within a van’s engine block.

Officer Passarella, who also serves a volunteer fire fighter, was called upon by fellow police officers to try his hand at removing the kitten from a van parked in Brighton Beach. Since firefighters are identified with rescuing cats from trees, one of the cops on the scene asked, in jest, if Passarella could get at cat out of an engine. As it turned out, the answer was yes.

After failing to reach the scared gray tabby kitten from underneath the car, the officer suffered a few cuts and scrapes maneuvering his hand under a fan belt and grabbed the frightened feline. The story, along with pictures of Passarella and the kitten, went viral on social media.

The apparently homeless kitten, who was at most two months old, found a forever home with another police officer who made a present of it to her soon. According to the cats new owners its name is ‘Pazzy’, in honor of Passarella.

Last December, Passarella and his partner were seen comforting a little lost boy. In the picture, the five-year-old was shown wearing Officer Passarella’s jacket. Perhaps the officer’s next digital Business Cards should include “rescuer of cats and children”.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
