What's Happening in Brooklyn, NY…

Veterans from throughout the Brighton Beach area and the rest of the city joined forces with the American Legion and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority this month to make sure that the thousands of toys and other gifts collected through the “Toys for Tots” program made their way to Floyd Bennett Field.

The convoy of vehicles that had been charged with delivering the cargo ranged from two MTA busses, seven-ton military vehicles, an ambulance, two fire trucks, and a variety of civilian cars and trucks. They loaded up at a Gerritsen Avenue building that had been used by the Marine Corps. League of Brooklynn was a collection point for the toys, which had been donated by more than 120 different local businesses.

All told, there were 85 vehicles in the line, not including the 250 motorcycles from 15 area riding clubs that had joined in as well. Banners can be used to decorate the transport, and these can both thank those who made a donation and spread the word about the event so it can be even better next year.

Once they had arrived, the donations were sorted through by a group of volunteers and organized according to both gender and appropriate age. From there, they were sent back out to be distributed to children in need throughout all of the Five Boroughs to help ensure they had a happy holiday season. Get a Free Quote for Banners
