Brighton Beach workshop to introduce fabulous ferns

Shade gardening often presents a challenge, but an upcoming horticultural workshop will help to add life to low-light plantings.

A Brighton Beach gardening class will introduce both new and experienced green thumbs to the benefits of using ferns in the home landscape. Mobee Weinstein, author of “The Complete Book of Ferns” will be sharing his knowledge, and the function includes both a presentation and “in the field” learning.

The function will explore how ferns are different from other plants as well as their typical requirements for light, soil pH, and moisture. They will find out how to combine them with other plants in the garden so they can be enjoyed to their full effect, and several species and their cultivars will be discussed so that the attendees will walk away with a better understanding of these often-underutilized landscape additions.

The ticket price for the activity, which is being presented thanks to the New York Botanical Garden, is $169. Training manuals and other tests for an organized learning activity will be on offer at a local company that offers binding and other custom printing services.

This exploration of ferns and the way they can be used in a garden will be offered on July 16. It will begin at 11:00 am, and the venue will be located at 2900 Southern Road in the Bronx.
