Brighton Beach workshop offers tips on successful composting

One of the secrets savvy gardeners have up their sleeve is using compost, and a Brighton Beach area workshop will help community members to prepare this valuable soil amendment for themselves.

The Forest Park Visitor Center on Park Drive in Queens will be welcoming the public for its Composting 101 learning session, where advance registration is mandatory. There is no fee being charged to participate, and its scheduled run time is one hour.

During the workshop, the facilitator will review the benefits of using compost and also share tips for creating the material using kitchen scraps and other items. It was explained that this will help to reduce the amount of waste generated, and as the attendees will discover how to speed up the composting process, they will be able to put it to use in their own garden quickly. Anyone who has questions or wants to find out more is asked to call 718-846-2731.

Attending a function like this is one way a green thumb can add to their knowledge base. A brochure printing company will be able to prepare tips sheets to distribute on the day.

NYC Parks has scheduled this activity for the morning of Sunday, September 19. The Forest Park Visitor Center can be found at the corner of Forest Park Drive and Woodhaven Boulevard.
