A ribbon cutting ceremony was held October 31 to celebrate the opening of Bright ‘N Green, a net-zero energy building in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn.
Two years to the day after Super Storm Sandy provided a demonstration of what Mother Nature can do, the net-zero Bright ‘N Green building was opened. The new building’s ribbon cutting was to emphasis the importance of building with an eye toward preventing climate change, as well as dealing with its effects.

The formerly polluted land occupied by Bright ‘N Green has now received a Green Site Award. The building itself utilizes the latest in green technologies and includes solar panels, recycled materials, and a geothermal heating and cooling system constructed and installed by Earth Linked Technologies.
Bright ‘N Green has six-apartments and, according to the architect, will have “a negative $6,000 electric bill” per month, with neither tenants nor future building owners having to pay any energy bills.
