A Brighton Beach area green space is home to hundreds of species of insects, spiders, and other invertebrates, and an upcoming visit will introduce them to the public.
Matthew Wills will be facilitating a guided visit to The Green-Wood Cemetery, and while participants explore the venue, he will introduce them to some of its smallest residents. Tickets for the insect walk start at $11.19, which includes fees and taxes, and it is best suited to those age 10 and up.
During the outing, Mr. Wills will point out various species, providing details about them, their life cycle, and where they fit into the ecosystem. Herbivores, carnivores, pollinators, and pests will all be on the roster, and after the session has wrapped up, the hope is that the participants will have a greater appreciation for their neighbors with six, eight, or even more legs.
Ticketholders for the excursion will meet up at the meadow near the location’s main entrance located at 25th Street and Fifth Venue. People in a nature walk may appreciate receiving basic field guides to help them identify what they see, and these can be prepared by printing services companies.
The Green Wood Historic Fund has planned this guided tour for Sunday, September 17. It will head out at 10:30 am, and proper walking shoes are highly recommended.
