Brighton Beach residents who have always wanted to grow their own veggies but are unsure how to get started are about to be offered a learning opportunity.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden offers many workshops and other learning sessions throughout the year, and it recently scheduled a class that will introduce the basics of vegetable gardening. The class will start with the fundamentals, and there are two dates to choose from.
The instructor for the workshop will be Hester Griffin. Learners will be walked through the steps of choosing and preparing their planting site, and the use of soil amendments will be on the agenda for discussion. They will find out how to choose the right types of plants and seeds to use, and seed starting will be reviewed as well. Organic pest and weed control and harvesting the crop will round out the conversation.
More people are becoming interested in learning how to live a sustainable lifestyle, and a class provides a chance for them to do so. Copies of handouts and other learning materials can be prepared by Stationery printers, which may also be able to offer Promotional Products to distribute as well.
This introduction to the art and science of growing fresh vegetables at home will be offered on May 2 and May 30, both of which are Thursdays, at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Both will begin at 5:00 pm.
