Flu vaccines offered in Henderson area

Clinics in Henderson, Mesquite, and Las Vegas are now providing annual flu vaccines.

The cost for this season’s regular injectable flu vaccine is $41, while the high dose vaccine for over-65s is $59. The Pertussis vaccine, which is recommended for anyone who cares for or lives with infants, will also be offered at flu shot clinics at a cost of $60 plus the administrative fee.

The Southern Nevada Health District recommends getting immunized as soon as the vaccine is available so that protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is at its highest. The two types of flu vaccines available are the quadrivalent flu shot and the quadrivalent inhaled vaccine.

The quadrivalent flu shot protects people of six months of age and older against two strains of Influenza B and two strains of Influenza A. The quadrivalent inhaled vaccine protects against the same four strains of influenza, but is sprayed into the nose and uses live attenuated virus. The latter is given only to those children whose parents or guardians cannot afford the cost of the vaccine.

The Southern Nevada Health District is most likely turning to a local flyer printing company to create Flyers and mailers that can be sent to the community, letting them know of the vaccines available and how they can stave off winter illnesses.
