Henderson City Hall is set to explore Juneteenth and concepts of freedom that are still being contemplated and debated to this day.
The art display is just one part of this historical event that commemorates the date Major General Gordon Granger ordered the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, thus giving rise to the largest expansion of civil rights in US history.
Exhibits like this can make use of banner printing to promote the event to members of the local community. The art exhibit can be viewed from June 1 through July 20.
There will be a flag-raising ceremony on June 1 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on the Council Chambers and City Hall steps. The main Juneteenth celebration event will be held on Friday, June 19, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Water Street Plaza.
The Juneteenth festival will include both critic and audience-acclaimed vocal performers, bands and musicians, along with a full community vendor market to ensure a variety of activities suitable for people of all ages.
Performances by Thunderstorm Artis and Naturally 7 will take place at the festival. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis for this event.
All Juneteenth events are free to the public and are presented in partnership with the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, as well as donations of the city of Henderson’s business community.
