New bike lanes in planning process for Fair Lawn

The Environmental Commission has created a detailed plan and design for a painted and permanent bike lane in Fair Lawn. The Commission has decided to use Henderson and 11th Streets for the bike lanes.

A representative from the Commission said using Henderson for bike lanes will have many benefits for the borough. The representative added that Henderson is a wide street so there is enough space for traffic in two ways, as well as parking and a full bike lane on each side. The representative added that it also connects Fair Lawn and Maple Avenues, avoids River Road, and facilitates access to several businesses.

The rep did note that there are some challenges regarding 11th Street. The street is not wide enough for two separate painted bike lanes, so there will be new markings and Signs designating the street as a bike route. Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such planned bike lanes to the community with Flyers and mailers.

The next step in this process is for the police department of Fair Lawn to carry out a study of the site to ensure that there will not be any issues regarding traffic. Based on these findings, a final drawing of the routes will be put together.

Funding for this project may come from the existing funds allocated for the bike lane for Fair Lawn Parkway.
