The Mentoring Youth Program of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County located in Hackensack, just a few miles from Fair Lawn, is looking for adults to serve as mentors to children between the ages of5 and 18.
The drive is for its next training program coming up this month, which caters to children facing adverse challenges in life and at home. Mentors provide friendship, support and guidance to the children, serving as positive role models.
According to the CEO of the Volunteer Center, Janet Sharma, those who get involved in this program improve life for children who need a person they can trust.
Dr. Faith Samples-Smart, Director of the Mentoring Youth Program, added that these children need someone who believes in them, and encourages them to succeed. She noted that the time a child spends with a mentor frees the child from their daily challenges and provides them with a safe zone with an adult who cares.
The next Mentoring Youth training program will be held at the Volunteer Center of Bergen County Hackensack and is set to begin on Wednesday, January 28, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, running for three weeks. Most likely, the center has used flyer printing to create mailers to be sent to adults in the community encouraging them to volunteer their time and support.
