Grant to improve area near Fair Lawn

The Great Falls area in Patterson will become more walkable thanks to a grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Andre Sayegh, the mayor of Patterson, said that the grant of $820,000 will increase the aesthetic appeal of the area to attract visitors as a way to enhance the rebirth of the city. Residents of Fair Lawn will want to take advantage of such enrichments once they are completed. Sayegh pointed out that Great Falls is the birthplace of the city. He added that giving new life to this area will create energy that will spread to all six wards and enable the city to once more become prominent in the state.

The grant is one of 10 awarded by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) and will extend the streetscaping currently underway in the county. Passaic County is currently rehabilitating the Wayne Avenue Bridge, Maple Street, and Totowa Avene to Hinchliffe Stadium. Part of the grant will also be used to design and install signage along the walking trail from Garret Mountain Reservation to the Great Falls. Word about such improvements is often spread throughout a community with Flyers created by local Print shops.

John Bartlett, Passaic County Commissioner, said that this will become a walkable space that will be part of the effort to reinstate Patterson as a destination.
