Fair Lawn’s Garretson Forge Farm, which is listed on the New Jersey and National Historic Registry, has a variety of tours coming up over the next few months.
On September 9, the farm hosts a Butterfly Festival, and on October 10 at 7:00 pm, a Harvest Festival takes place that has tours of the farm and garden, open hearth cooking, and children's activities.
In fact, there are tours every second and fourth Sunday of the month. The times are 1:00 to 4:00 pm.for group tours. Admission is free and donations are always accepted from visitors.
The farm has conducted extensive fundraising and at one point restored the kitchen to its 18th-Century design. It is a volunteer organization that helps the community and teaches about sustainable farming.
The gardens feature a variety of heirloom vegetables and uses organic and sustainable practices. They have a kitchen garden and donate produce in season to the food pantry.
The Garretson Forge Farm has a large herb garden with about 75 types of medicinal and culinary herbs. These herbs were grown in the 17th and 18th Century. The Butterfly Garden attracts many different types of butterflies
The Children's Garden gives children a chance to learn about wildflowers, bulbs, and ferns. Visitors can sit in the shade when they visit, and many volunteer gardeners are master gardens trained at a local community college.
