A gala and re-enactment of Grover Cleveland’s inauguration in 1983 was recently held by the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association at the Woman’s Club of Upper Montclair, near Fair Lawn.
John Eliot from CBS of New York served as Master of Ceremonies. The event was a fundraiser for the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Historic Site and the Montclair Orchestra. There were performances by the orchestra at the gala, including pieces that were written for Cleveland’s inauguration.
The gala celebrated the second inauguration of Cleveland who was the 22nd and 24th president of the United State, making him the only such president to serve two terms that were not consecutive.
United States Ambassador Thomas Robertson, who is also the great-grandson of Cleveland, said that his great-grandfather was the only president who was born in New Jersey, so it is time for celebrating one of the state’s favorite sons.
The gala auction had items for bid that related to the White House and presidents in general. Roland Mesnier, former White House Chef, also made remarks about the five presidents for whom he created meals.
Organizers of this sort of event can use flyer printing to draw attention to the history of such presidents and the states in which they were raised.
