Fair Lawn resident Marianne Pettineo’s seven years’ service as ADA Advisory Committee Chair was recently honored by the borough.
In lieu of being presented a plaque, Pettineo had asked the Council to donate $100 to the family of Brandon Higgins towards the purchase of a van to help with his transportation needs. John Cosgrove, Deputy Mayor of Community Affairs, added that a Tricky Tray will also be held on April 4 to help with fundraising efforts. Banner printing companies can be hired to create displays to be posted in the community so that residents learn more about such fundraising efforts.
Mayor Kurt Peluso praised Pettineo for all her hard work, and Assemblyman Lisa Swain added that she is a very compassionate person.
Pettineo has long been a volunteer for the many PTA organizations in the Fair Lawn school district. Among her accomplishments working to raise money for a special needs playground, the Barrier-Free Playground in Berdan Grove, which was built in 2014.
Her committee has also been involved in other projects to improve accessibility for the physically challenged and provided a forum for residents to discuss access issues in the borough. Last year, the committee hosted a Halloween party, a beach party over the summer, and several dances at the Fair Lawn Community Center Gym.
