An amount of $3m has been set aside by the Fair Lawn Public School district in the 2023 budget for career and technical education (CTE).
Nick Norcia, superintendent of the school district, said that this is the first step for the district to create a program that is much needed, and to provide a way so students can be trained in a skilled labor and address the worker shortages in the trades industry. He added that the district will be utilizing and allocating additional aid from the state without the need for a public referendum, allowing this commitment to be made to the community.
The school district will be offering a CTE program for the entire four years of high school starting with students in the ninth grade. There will trade electives and the district will be collaborating with The Bergen County Technical Schools for several avenues in the program. School districts often turn to brochure printing to provide more information about their programs.
District administrators revealed at a recent work session that there was an additional $5m in state aid, with a total aid package of close to $17m for the upcoming school year. Trustees of the School Board applauded the trade program, noted it offered an alternative for those who do not want to go to college.
