Fair Lawn students reveal two-year engineering project

A crowd recently gathered at the Fair Lawn High School to see the unveiling of a full-scale stationary model of a 787-simulator.

It was created by students Dan Mezhiborsky and Bernie Moedler, with the support of Mr. Mohamed Metwally, their engineering and technology teacher.

The project had taken the students, both seniors, two years to build and were working on it up until the unveiling, which included a take-off and landing. They built the cockpit in what was once a large storage closet adjacent to the gymnasium at the high school.

Flyer printing can be used at such events to provide more information about such projects and details about what was built.

The students used computer-aided design and modeling, wood and laser cutting, and three-dimensional printing to design and build the flight simulator to the specifications of a real 787 aircraft. The software was developed by the students to control parts of the simulator. Three-dimensional models were used to build the parts, all of which scaled into the hundreds. During the process, they learned about teamwork, budgeting, technology, and time management.

At the unveiling, which was attended by school administrators, members of the Board of Trustees, family, and friends, the students were presented with a congressional certificate of recognition by Val Kologrivov, Community Outreach Liaison for Congressman Gottheimer.
