Fair Lawn small businesses boosted by new marketplace

A free online directory has been created by the Fair Lawn Economic Development Corp. (EDC) to make residents aware of the more than 600 small businesses the town of Fair Lawn has to offer.

Called the Fair Lawn Marketplace, the directory highlights the many activities and services available in the local area. It also looks to provide greater exposure to the organizations, businesses, and shops listed on the site. Such businesses and organizations often augment the exposure they receive with brochure printing to provide more details about specific products and services.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Ramapo College worked with the EDC on the technical aspects of the site. Andrew Clark, a computer science major and a consultant with the SBDC, worked with the EDC to create a strategy for the Marketplace and worked the company hosting the site on many aspects of the site, including data entry, search engine optimization, and a special quick response (QR) code for each business in Fair Lawn.

Frank Hall, member of the board of directors of the EDC, said that since the site has launched, many businesses asked to be added to it. He noted that this website has made Fair Lawn the gold standard for how a municipality in New Jersey can unite in supporting its local businesses.
