Fair Lawn receives distinguished designation

The Main Street New Jersey (MSNJ) designation has been awarded to the Fair Lawn Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

This is a distinction that will enable the town to be eligible for operational support and physical improvement grants and other opportunities. Volunteers at the EDC worked for many months on the application for the Main Street program.

Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such designations and their benefits throughout a community using Flyers and other printed materials.

President of the Fair Lawn EDC, Abigail Katznelson, expressed pride in being one of the Main Street Districts. She added that aside from being a respected designation, it will provide access for the town to many resources that will help it to revitalize the downtown district. Mayor Kurt Peluso also expressed his excitement about the Main Street program.

The MSNJ program targets the historic commercial districts in the state, looking to provide training and technical support to communities in New Jersey that are committed to revitalizing their traditional business districts with a strategy based on preserving their historic nature.

The program was established in 1989 to support and encourage the revitalization of historic districts in the state. Communities in receipt of such designations have since received the needed resources to enhance their Main Streets as a focus for commerce and community activity.
